You install one Wikipedia, not both: Essentials or Full. GB here are decimal (1,000,000,000 bytes), the figure a Mac's Finder shows. GiB is the binary figure, which Windows File Explorer shows but labels GB. We don't re-host Wikipedia or WikiMed: each comes from the people who make it.

The Offline Brain

Your own copy of the answers, for the day the cloud goes quiet. A small AI, Wikipedia, WikiMed and maps that run on your laptop with the Wi-Fi off.

Prefer it on a USB, ready to plug in? Join the waitlist.

Your questions never leave your laptop, there's no account, and every answer shows the Wikipedia or WikiMed article it used. US$29 once is about six weeks of ChatGPT Plus (US$20 a month), and this one you keep. If the cloud never goes quiet, you still own a very good offline library, and you have 30 days to change your mind.

Your own AI and library, set up for you.

You could build this yourself. You'd choose a model that fits in 8 GB of RAM, a program to run it, the right Wikipedia file from dozens of Kiwix builds, a map format that works offline on both Windows and Mac, and a drive format that can hold one 127 GB file (FAT32 can't). We've chosen the set, and one installer puts it together in an evening.

An AI that just answers, no lecturing

Ask it how to do something and it tells you, in plain steps. It runs on your laptop, so nothing you ask leaves it.

Small on purpose. It's a 4B open model, about 2.7 GB, that runs on a laptop with 8 GB of RAM. It doesn't need a graphics card.

Weaker than cloud AI. It is less capable than ChatGPT and the other big online assistants. It can get facts wrong, sound sure when it's wrong, lose the thread in a long chat and slip on maths.

So the source sits beside it. Every answer comes with the Wikipedia or WikiMed article it used, so you can check anything that matters. Medical answers end with a line telling you to check the reference and call 111, 000 or 911.

Not instant on older laptops. On an older laptop with no graphics chip it can take about 30 seconds before the first word appears. The article shows straight away while you wait.

Screen recording to come: the Wi-Fi switched off, then a question asked and answered, start to finish, no cuts.

Common questions

All questions

What do I actually receive?
An email with the installer, the setup guide, the playbook PDF and the licence file. The installer then downloads the AI, Wikipedia, WikiMed and your map pack from their sources.
Essentials or Full?
Both are included in the one price. Essentials is the 1 million most-read Wikipedia articles as text: in total, about 22.3 to 23.3 GB (20.8 to 21.7 GiB), depending on the state. Full is every English article with images: in total, about 132.6 to 133.6 GB (123.5 to 124.4 GiB), depending on the state. Pick Essentials if your laptop is short on space or your internet is slow. You can switch in the installer later.
How much space do I need?
The installer asks for the download size plus 10%: 25 GB free (23.3 GiB) for Essentials, 147 GB free (136.9 GiB) for Full. It checks your free space before it starts.
How long does setup take?
Mostly download time, which depends on your connection. On a 100 Mbps line, Essentials takes about 30 minutes and Full about 3 hours. You can leave it running.
Will the AI run on my laptop?
It's built for an ordinary Windows or Mac laptop with 8 GB of RAM, and doesn't need a graphics card. On older laptops it's slower to start each answer.
Do my questions stay private?
Your questions never leave your laptop. The AI runs there, with no account. When you're online it checks for updates, and your questions are never part of that.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 30 days. Email us and we'll refund your payment.
Anything for power cuts?
The Offline Brain runs on laptop battery. For the rest there's a crank and solar radio (US$39) and a backup power bank (US$49, specs being verified). Delivery is included. See the add-ons.
